Treatment and cost plan (HKP)

A written treatment and cost overview, especially for dental restorations: expected costs, fixed subsidy, and your estimated share.

A treatment and cost plan (Heil- und Kostenplan, HKP) is a written summary of planned dental care. It shows which treatment is planned, which costs are expected, and what part may be subsidized by the statutory health insurance fund for patients with German statutory coverage.

An HKP is especially important for dental restorations, for example crowns, bridges, or dentures. The health insurance fund reviews the plan and sets the fixed subsidy. This gives you an estimate of the share that would remain for you to pay.

You should have time to read the plan and ask questions before treatment begins. A second opinion is also possible. Treatment starts only once the plan has been discussed and accepted by you.
