Professional dental cleaning complements your care at home. It removes deposits that are hard to reach with a toothbrush, floss, or interdental brushes. The tooth surfaces may then be polished and, depending on the findings, treated with fluoride.
How extensive the cleaning is depends on your situation: gum health, tendency to build up deposits, dental restorations, crowded teeth, implants, and home-care habits all matter. It is therefore not the same appointment for every patient.
Professional dental cleaning is usually paid out of pocket. Some German health insurance funds contribute voluntarily or through bonus programs. Whether reimbursement is possible, and in what amount, is best clarified directly with your health insurance fund.
